 <title>American Red Cross Workers Fight Lay Offs</title>

 <description> Members of AFSCME Local 3145 held a press conference saying that the recent layoffs of Red Cross blood drive employees endanger the safety of the community unnecessarily. Connecticut Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross laid off 19 employees (nearly 10 percent of the workforce) without warning.</description>

 <title>Worker Memorial in Progress</title>

 <description>The ground for the Worker Memorial in Bushnell Park has been broken and now the building begins! Members of Operating Engineers Local 478 are filling in the earth around the monument.  
The monument will honor those who have been killed or injured on the job.  It is located near the Sailors and Soldiers Memorial in Bushnell Park and across the street from the Carosel.</description>
